The BYU-Hawaii women’s soccer team has been tapped as the pre-season favorite to win the Pacific West Conference title in a poll of seven conference coaches.

The Seasiders, despite being in just the second year of the program, received two first-place votes and narrowly edged out newcomer Dixie State in the voting. Additionally, BYUH senior forward Jill Haar was voted the preseason Player of the Year.

BYUH finished second last year under coach Justin Wagar with a very young team and returns a strong nucleus of players this year. In addition to Haar, sophomore forward Emily Mearns and senior defender Sarah Norton were picked as members of the preseason All-Conference team from BYUH.

The Seasiders were to open the season Monday against regional foe Central Washington and host Concordia (CA) at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
