A “super rummage sale” may not sound like the place to uncover stories of ancient cultural impact, but the intention is there. The revived Ko‘olaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club held such a sale July 1 at He‘eia Elementary School in order to make some money to support its ambitious agenda of educational and cultural awareness for the Kaneohe Bay region. The group is on a mission to share with Kaneohe residents the rich, historic treasures of their ahupua‘a, and is partnering with the Koolau Foundation to do so. Visitors to the rummage sale found baked goods and plants as well as the discarded treasures of modern American culture — “everything but the kitchen sink,” said club member Mahealani Cypher. To join up, call 224-8514.
