For more than three decades, Daunna Yanoviak’s Kailua art studio has been a bubbling fountain of creativity, and each year it overflows into Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden gallery for a big show. The Dec. 3 reception drew 300 fans who enjoyed about 500 multimedia pieces by 88 of the studio’s current students and teachers. Daunna’s first class was in 1974, at the request of little artist Karen Kiefer’s mother. Karen never left, and now teaches at the studio along with Daunna, Michelle Tamayose, Robin Dwight and Andre Yanoviak. Of that first class, Andre (who was up from 2 a.m. to prepare the show) says: “Mom told my sisters and me, ‘I’ve only got three students so you have to come to class!’ ” The exhibit runs daily through Dec. 30.
