The Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy graduated 110 students on June 23. The ceremony and celebration attracted a packed audience of family and friends at the Pearl City Cultural Center. This graduation was a little different than the ones occuring throughout the past few weeks. The graduates were all 16- to 18-year-old former high school dropouts who persevered through the 17-month program to earn their high school diplomas. Besides an academic education, the academy offered the students experience in community service, physical fitness and life skills training. The graduates will now prepare to enter college, join the military or enter the work force.
