Orchids have beautified the planet for ages, and so has the Ewa Orchid Society — or so it seems. The club returned to its “roots” July 14-16 by holding its annual show at Ewa Elementary School where it began more than 50 years ago. With the theme “Plantation Days,” the show played host to several Oahu orchid and succulent societies and their displays, along with door prizes and sales, and daily demonstrations of orchid growing techniques. According to Ewa Orchid Society president Rick Simafranca, “We just wanted people to come so we could perpetuate the knowledge.” Members hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday (July 27), also at Ewa Elementary School. All orchid fans are welcome. To find out more, call 689-0566.
