Sponsors of Hawaii Kai’s second annual July 4 extravaganza already are reaching out to residents to join the effort, which is expected to bring more than 20,000 people to Maunalua Bay between 2 and 9 p.m. on the national holiday.

Emceed by Ramsay Wharton of KGMB’s Sunrise show, the celebration will have entertainment throughout the evening, along with food and activities for all ages. A fireworks show will light up the sky at 8 p.m.

Outback Steakhouse and others have stepped forward to help. The Hawaii Kai restaurant is sponsoring the second of its benefit dinners, which can be claimed any time in June for a $15 ticket. The sit-down meal includes a choice of three entrees as well as sides and a salad. For ticket information, call Outback at 396-7576 or 256-3553.

According to Outback Hawaii Kai owner Tyler Roukema, the first fundraising dinner in April went extremely well. As a result, he gave the Independence Day at Maunalua Bay Foundation more than $7,000. The foundation’s goal is to put three-fourths of the proceeds toward a scholarship fund for an East Oahu student. Roukema’s goal is to raise another $3,000, which would qualify the restaurant as a Diamond Sponsor.

Other sponsors are Pacific International Realty, Koko Marina Center, Roy’s Hawaii Kai, Hawaii USA Credit Union, Bryan and Laura Buck, Portlock Association, Brett Hill Construction, Central Pacific Bank, etc.

Vendor interest also is up, organizers said. Already committed are KFC Niu Valley, Jamba Juice, Subway, Kale’s, Taco Del Mar, Kahuku Corn and Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream.

Volunteers prior and during the event are always welcome. For more information, visit www.idmbf.com or call 394-9226 to offer help.
