Full House Beats A Flush

The one thing I love about the holidays is that our families get together at our house. The one thing I hate about the holidays is that our families get together at our house. Really, I know this is a blatant contradiction, but I think most of you know what I mean.

With the exception of New Year’s Eve, all the yearly holiday get-togethers are held at our house. It’s not that we have a huge place or anything, but like the house I grew up in Wahiawa, our home seems to be the gathering place for friends and family.

That’s what I love about it as those gatherings are certainly memorable and family is what it’s all about. Of course, those gatherings don’t occur like magic - there’s a lot of work involved such as cleaning up and gathering the food and drinks. There’s also the cleanup after everyone leaves.

Everyone pitches in so it’s not that bad, and as long as everyone has a great time, well, then our job as hosts is done. This past Christmas day, we had an exceptionally large crowd to entertain. My wife’s aunty had her son and daughter’s family in from the Mainland.

Including all the family that lives here, our house was pretty “max’d out” for space, particularly places to sit down. Every room was occupied with people, including our bedroom where our 4-year-old twin nephews had their video game set up. I was really tired having stayed up the night before.

You could say that I stayed up to help Santa all the way to 4 a.m. After partaking of our holiday feast, I looked for a place to park myself “for a long winter’s nap.” The only place I could find was my weight bench in the garage. I fell asleep and didn’t wake up for an hour and a half.

When I returned to the party, no one had even missed me or realized I was gone. I asked my wife if they knew where I was. She said everyone thought I was in the bathroom. I objected, “What makes you think I would be in the bathroom for 90 minutes?”

My wife looked at me with a grin on her face and simply replied, “History.”

Christine Olah, a Realtor-associate for Star Realty, sent in an intriguing scientific website from a teacher friend of hers in Florida. Careful, tricky URL.

Need a science degree just to type that one in. Send in your favorite sites to me at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
