Thank you

Thank you for promoting Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month with a recent Newsmaker feature by Susan Sunderland. I am humbled by the response and overwhelmed that the symptoms will be seen by so many devout MidWeek readers. You made a big difference and touched our support group. Thank you.

Uninspiring

Oh, boy, did Bob Jones hit the nail on the head with his column “Our Leaders Lacking In Inspiration.”

The worst part is I voted for most of the characters he refers to, including president, governor and mayor.

There’s not a true leader among the bunch, much less an inspirational figure who can “rally the troops,” as it were.

I’ve thought about this, and the problem is the quality of people running for office. I take pride in always voting, but if the candidates are crummy, should we not vote?

I do know that I’ll not vote again for the aforementioned trio.

GOP Christians

Conservative Christians may indeed, as Dan Boylan says, be the “base” of the Republican Party. But in such a religiously and culturally diverse state as Hawaii, deposed GOP chairman Jonah Kaauwai’s rants about “righteousness” and certain candidates being favored by Jesus were by definition divisive.

To have any success, a political party must offer more than one narrow religion.

Inappropriate

I enjoy reading MidWeek each week, but the Kea Ho cover photo struck me as inappropriate for something many families leave lying around the house. I promptly recycled it away to avoid my three young sons seeing it.

Beautiful

I just wanted to say how much I loved the cover of Kea Ho. She looked absolutely beautiful. Bravo to stylist Ralph Malani. Job well done.

Laugh out loud

I have just finished reading Bruce Cameron’s column “Those Helpful New Medical Codes,” and I have not laughed so long or so loud for a long time. I am a retired RN (in 1997 from Queen’s after 25 years there), and Cameron’s article tickled my funny bone! Just delightful.
