WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

BEFORE THE FOOTBALL season started, the odds that the New York Giants would win the Super Bowl were 85 to 1. So, my son’s $20 bet is worth $1,720 ... perhaps it’s time to collect some rent.

IN 1925,A BOOKIE (it was legal back then) named Tim Mara paid $500 for the N.Y. Giants. He was a notorious gambler who was also one of the founders of the National Football League; his family still owns the team. In addition to its infamous past, the grand irony is that the NFL is completely opposed to gambling even though it’s responsible for an estimated $10 billion in annual betting.

JAY-Z AND girlfriend Beyoncé did the Vegas Super Bowl thing ... the only difference between them and us is we pay to have a good time and they get paid to have a good time. The couple hung at the brand new $1.9 billion Palazzo, the home of Jay-Z’s 40/40 club. When you check it out, be sure to look down ... the mogul spent a cool $1 million on the dance floor.

FEBRUARY IS always a busy month in Vegas ... The Super Bowl (oops, the Big Game) is the single biggest weekend of the entire year, plus Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and more than 200 conventions.

CHECK OUT local boy rock ‘n’ roll photographer Robert M. Knight’s exhibit, “40 x 40” Forty Years of Photography, at Symbolic Gallery, 4631 S. Dean Martin Drive. As the title suggests, in the last 40 years he’s partied and photographed everyone from Eric Clapton to Gabby Pahinui and published three books.

MAGIC IS A fashionista’s nirvana ... starting Feb. 12, it’s four days of the latest styles as manufacturers break out their latest for retailers from across the nation. About 115,000 will attend this clothes convention. Get the link to see wassup at www.KimosVegas.com

IT’S NEVER a good sign when the boss asks employees to hold their paycheck for a few days ... but that’s exactly what happened at the Tropicana. The hotel’s ownership (Columbia Sussex Corp.) also is in a public battle with the culinary union and under investigation by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Last month it lost its gaming license and its control of The Tropicana Atlantic City in New Jersey.

MIRROR, MIRROR on the wall, who’s the best hotel of them all? According to the 30 million visitors to TripAdvisor.com, The Signature at the MGM Grand is the No.1 best luxury hotel in the U.S. and one of the top 100 luxury hotels in the world. The non-gaming, non-smoking all-suite resort is the only Las Vegas hotel to place in each category.

DONALD TRUMP is being sued for unfair competition, false promotion and violation of anti-trust laws. The $4 billion suit involves the Trump Towers Las Vegas and a local property management firm.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL closes its doors (for one day) in Vegas to take the show on the road to the Grammy Awards Feb. 10. Twenty-five dancers and acrobats will perform A Day in the Life from the LOVE show in a tribute to the Beatles. Also performing at the 50th annual awards show are Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Rihanna.

THE SLOTS at the Cal were hot for Blossom Aweau of Waianae ($2,000), Lina Mercado of Honolulu ($2,000), Robert Hashimoto of Kailua ($2,212), Marlo Mercado of Honolulu ($2,392) and Bill Barker of Naalehu, who won $5,400.
