THE PALMS had its share of celebs celebrating New Year’s ... American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Rob Dyrdek (MTV’s Rob & Big), Axl Rose (Guns N’ Roses), Jena Jameson (actress), Tito Ortiz (boxer), Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics) - and Nicole Ritchie was spotted eating (really) at N9NE.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ New Year’s got a rough start ... the singer stood up and just fell right to the floor. She was immediately taken to her room surrounded by 12 security people.

IF YOU DIDN’T know when it was, you just might think it was Halloween ... Rocky the Leprechaun was passing out four-leaf clover stickers and Mark from California hit the Strip with a beer keg in his grandma’s wheelchair - they were among the estimated 300,000 partiers who rang in the New Year, Sin City-style. Gaming execs are guesstimating that the city grossed about $198 million over the weekend.

IT WAS A LATE Christmas gift but one heck of a way to ring in the New Year ... Joe Jenkins from Wilmington, N.C., put $20 in the Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Caesars Palace, lined up the three wheel symbols on the center line and won $5.5 million! Megajackpot winners are given the choice between a lump sum or annual payments. Before leaving the hotel he collected the first of 20 annual checks in the amount of $278,714.49.

IF YOU HAVEN’T joined the Stratosphere’s Mile High Club ... people who’ve ridden the High Roller - the world’s highest rollercoaster way up on the tower - it’s too late. The ride was shut down Dec. 30 and will be taken down. Maybe it’ll find its way atop Ed Schroeder’s and Joni Oren’s house. They’re the local folks who have ridden every coaster ever built (or close to it). Check out their rollercoaster reviews at www.AroundHawaii.com.

COLUMBIA SUSSEX - the company that owns the Tropicana - has announced its plans for the hotel. The showroom and Island & Paradise Towers will remain, but everything else has a date with the wrecking ball. New attractions and four new towers will be built. At the end of the day the Tropicana will have 948 condo-hotel units and 9,276 hotel rooms for a total of 10,224 rooms, edging out the Venetian’s room count of 4,027. After its current expansion the Venetian will still have fewer rooms at 7,052.

THE 40th anniversary International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is happening next week. Every kind of home electronic device known to man can be found at CES. Last year more than 150,000 industry pros and more than 2,700 exhibitors from around the world made this the biggest electronics show ever. Did you know that in 2006 the number of consumer electronic devices in the average home was 26? That’s up from 17 in 2000.
