Tesoro Ladies Foil Truck Theft

I want to give a huge mahalo to Connie, Susan, Donna and Leonora, who were working at the Tesoro Gas Station on Kaahumanu Street in Aiea on Earth Day. I was on my way to volunteer at the Kokua Festival at the Waikiki Shell when I stopped to ask for directions to get back on the freeway. As I was returning to my vehicle, an unknown male took off with my truck! I chased him on foot as far as I could go, but to no avail. I ran back to the gas station and the ladies were already on the phone with the police. I also want to thank Officer B. Donato, who handled my emergency with efficiency and compassion. This story has a good ending too! Thanks to the fast response of the ladies and our helpful police force, I had my truck back in less than two hours! I have learned my lesson to never leave my keys in the ignition even if I’m just running in somewhere!

I would like to send APPLAUSE to Ted at the Bureau of Conveyances, who came to my rescue in researching some important records for me. His patience, his fortitude, his aloha, his time while helping me do this is so greatly appreciated. I actually learned how to operate the machine that printed out copies for me. Without Ted I would have given up and left for the North Shore. He proved to me I’m not stupid. Aloha nui loa, Ted. APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE, Mahalo.

“I try to help as often as I can,” says Ted Wong, who’s worked at the Bureau of Conveyances for the past eight years. “Sometimes people come in and they’re afraid to use the machines, so I encourage them. If they’re too afraid, I just do it for them. I like to help people.”
Dear Pamela,
Mahalo to Scot and Wini of the McKinley Community School for Adults for returning my husband’s driver’s license, which was lost during a visit to annual Friends of the Library book sale. We are from Niagara Falls, N.Y., and were visiting friends in Honolulu.
While it took almost five years to receive Otto’s license, we do appreciate the efforts of everyone who made it possible. Thank you.

Scot Seo and Winifred Tanaka have returned so many items they’ve lost count. “It happens so often we are used to tracking down the owners,” says Scot. “I hope it gives them so peace of mind.”
