Dear Pamela,

I would like to extend a thank you to Tara Dilworth, one of the managers of Bare Escentuals at Ala Moana. I purchased Valentine’s cards for family and then stopped by the Bare Escentuals store. I forgot my cards there but didn’t realize where I had left them until I received an express mail a few days later from Tara. She hoped I would be able to send the cards in time. The company I work for stresses customer service, and I feel Tara really exemplifies this as well. And, yes, the cards got to family in time for Valentine’s!

Dear Charleen,

“I found the cards in our store with a receipt, with which I was able to look her up in our computer,” says Bare Escentuals assistant manager Tara Dilworth. “Charleen is in the Hallmark Bonus Program, so we had her mailing information. I waited a couple days and when she didn’t come into the store, I put the cards in an express envelope hoping she would get them in time. I would do this for anybody.”

three star

Aloha Pamela,

Monday was not a good day for me. After being in the ER at Hawaii Medical Center East for two hours for high blood pressure, I took the No. 13 bus back to Waikiki to rest.

As I attempted to cross Kuhio Avenue, my right ankle twisted and I did a “face plant” onto the asphalt. Two couples immediately came to assist me. They gathered my bags, called 911 and sat with me while we waited for the EMTs to arrive. One man saw an HPD patrol car and flagged it down. Officer Shiroma and her partner came to check out the situation just as Eric and Eric (my awesome EMTs!) arrived. They took me back to HMC East, where Dr. Bob, nurses Wendy and Blaine, provided excellent care, again.

With the flurry of activity going on, I was unable to get the names of the guardian angels who stopped to help me. I hope that everyone involved will read this and hear, again, how grateful I am that they were all there for me that day.

And to you, thank you for giving us this venue to “shout out” to those who take a moment to care about someone else.

Dear Carlene,

Officers Corrie Shiroma and her partner Daniel Yanagihara of District 6 substation (Waikiki) were your HPD angels. Dr. Robert Rahmanian and nurses Wendy Chun-Nashiro and Blaine Shimizu assisted at Hawaii Medical Center East. Your paramedics are Eric Lum and Eric Chiavetta. Eric Lum says, “It’s great to be recognized for doing our day-to-day jobs. I’m glad we were able to help, and I commend her for her exceptional pain tolerance and toughness. Thank you very much!”
