Dear Pamela:

Just wanted to send an APPLAUSE to a helpful custodian named “Winston” at the Lihue Airport. My husband was unaware that his cell phone had fallen off his belt buckle on Kauai while waiting for his return flight to Honolulu on Aloha Airlines.

Upon landing in Honolulu, he reached for his phone to call me, not knowing that his phone was still on Kauai. Luckily when we called his cell phone, “Winston” had answered it and arranged to have my husband’s phone on the next flight to Honolulu. Thanks to this wonderful honest gentleman, my husband got his phone back and saved us from a lot of worrying and headache.

Our biggest MAHALO and APPLAUSE to Winston. We truly appreciate your help and honesty! Unfortunately we did not get his last name. Thank you for answering the cell phone! Mahalo also to the staff/baggage handlers at Aloha Airlines for the safe return of the cell phone.

You guys are AWESOME!

Dear Gordon and Karen,

Winston Antalan is a state of Hawaii custodian who works at Lihue Airport. Your Aloha Airlines customer service agents that day were Carly Aiu and Jaylynn Avilla.

They are all happy you’ll have pleasant memories of your Kauai vacation.

Dear Pamela, Our family would like to send their sincerest thank you to all the people that helped our dog Boobie on the night she was hit by a vehicle on Lehua Avenue in Pearl City. Sadly she did not not survive; her injuries were extensive.

She was an integral part of our family, although she wasn’t the most beautiful or the most intelligent. She was a sweetheart and everyone who met her fell in love with her instantly.

Our family is trying to adjust to life without her, and I must admit it is very trying. But we wanted to let everyone know that we appreciate the help that was given to her that night, especially the gentleman who stopped traffic so that the other cars would not hit her, and also for trying to track the car that did hit her and left the scene.

We are sorry for not being able to get any of their names; the shock of what happened and the need to get emergency care for her was immediate.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to the VCA Family Animal Hospital on Kaahumanu Street, the staff and doctors were excellent, they tried to save her life. Their caring, concern and patience with us, especially when we had to say our final goodbyes, will never be forgotten.

If it were not for this column, we would not know how to thank all these concerning citizens.

It makes our hearts feel good that we have wonderful citizens here in Hawaii, and we truly needed to thank all these people for our own healing process.

Dear Rutkowskis,

VCA Family Animal Hospital thanks you for your acknowledgment and hopes you are well on the way to a total healing.

“We are a 24-hour emergency hospital,” says facility manager Wayne Marquez, “... and so we have situations like this all the time. We do our best to be compassionate.”

Dear Pamela,

After having lunch at The Gazebo in Macy’s Pearlridge, I realized I had forgotten my handbag. I rushed back in the store and a young man was already coming toward me with my handbag.

I was so flustered and embarrassed that I don’t think I thanked him properly. He went out of his way to find me. He deserves to be recognized for his honesty and caring.

Elsie Takarawa

Pearl City

Dear Elsie,

Your young man was Kaleo Cambonga-Meyers, who is a busperson at The Gazebo at Macy’s Pearlridge.
