Replacing Pipes Creates Highway Delays

Regular commuters on Kamehameha Highway in Kaneohe already may have noticed a delay during the daytime drive. Chalk it up to contractors for the Board of Water Supply working to replace 12,000 feet of distribution pipeline and appurtenances.

Construction began Nov. 20 and is expected to be completed by the end of winter 2014, running week-days from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the highway between Heeia Kea Small Boat Harbor and Heeia Street. Motorists should expect delays or pursue alternate routes for the duration of the project.

BWS is replacing water-lines installed in 1944 as well as other infrastructure of an unknown age. The rehabilitation also will bolster fire protection, improve water service to area residents and reduce chances of water main breaks.

Questions about the project should be directed to BWS Construction Section. Call 748-5730 or email contactus@hbws.org.
