f any West O‘ahu residents made it their New Year’s resolution to run more — it’s time to prepare. Registration is open
for the 39th annual Hawai‘i Pacific Health Great Aloha Run.
The 8.15-mile run takes place Feb. 20, and this year’s event will be one for the record books because it marks Carole Kai’s final year as lead promoter/organizer. After nearly four decades of philanthropy, Kai, who co- founded the run, will be stepping down.
“You can imagine how emotional this de- cision has been,” states Kai. “Since the first Great Aloha Run in 1985, we have been able to raise $16 million in support of more than 150 nonprofits. Watching as many as 25,000 people every year lace up their running shoes for their health and the health of our larger community, has been a tremendous gift.”
In addition, Great Aloha Run is collaborat- ing with Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club to offer a public training program at 6:30 a.m. Sundays through Feb. 12.
