or 42 years, Pearl’s Chinese Kitch- en along Kamehameha Highway has been serving customers at the same
location in the food court next to Pearl City Don Quijote.
However, due to major renovations that the Leeward Oʻahu market has planned, Pearl’s Chinese Kitchen made the move to Waipahu Don Quijote food court instead.
Currently Pearl’s has about 10 employees, including cashiers and chefs.
“I want to keep all the workers,” says own- er J.J. Lee.
Longtime loyal customers of the Pearl City site have been asking about the change and saying how much the business will be missed.
“They’ve gone there since they were kids,” Lee elaborates.
Lee’s husband, Sherman, started the eatery in 1979, and it has been family-owned ever since. However, Lee explains that seven years ago, Sherman became permanently disabled and she assumed the reins of leadership.
