Honolulu Chapter’s Downtown Walking Tour is a rewarding experience.
The tour takes place twice a month in down- town’s historic capital district, an area rich in history, on Saturday mornings. It’s $20 per person, begins at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 11:30 a.m. Highlights include the restored Hawaiʻi Theatre, St. Andrews Cathedral, the Kame- hameha statue, Honolulu Hale and more.
It’s open to anyone who wants to deep dive into Honolulu’s architectural history.
“It’s typically a mix of tourists and locals,” says Mason.
He’s taken organizations like the Hawai‘i Community Foundation on tours, too.
The tour initially was created by retired architect Frank Haines, who volunteered his own time to put it together. At the height of the pandemic the tours had to pause, but thankfully restarted a year ago. Today, Ma- son and five other architects take turns as
