Several student-athletes from Hono- lulu schools will be among a group traveling to Boston to compete in the Head Of The Charles Regatta, the world’s largest two-day rowing event. They are Kate Bar- tholomees and Sophia Smith of Mid-Pacific In- stitute; Phoebe Reilly and
Lilinoe Wilson of Punahou School; and Danilla Monk of ‘Iolani School. The stu- dents are part of the non- profit Ikaika Hawai‘i, which perpetuates the waterman culture by educating keiki in water safety and sports. Ikaika Hawai‘i was found- ed by two-time Olympian rower Shelley Oates-Wild- ing and operates out of Hawai‘i Yacht Club. The regatta takes place Oct. 21- 23.  AccesSurf Hawai‘i is also hosting a Canoe Clinic on Oct. 22 in partnership with Honolulu Pearl Canoe Club and New Hope Canoe Club. Rowers will take to the water at 10 Sand Island Pkwy. You do need to register for this, and you can find more details at accessurf.org/canoe.

The top 10 men and top five women get a spot in the top level World Champion- ship Tour.
This year’s Challeng- er Series at the Vans U.S. Open in Huntington Beach was won by Ezekiel Lau and Bettylou Sakura John- son — both from Hawai‘i. Hawai‘i also dominated at
this year’s Challenger Series competition in Portugal, so let’s hope this continues into 2023.
