   Monthlong Event For Readers
 The 2022 Hawai‘i Book & Music Festival is back with a lineup to keep book lovers busy through the end of October.
  Like last year, Honolulu residents can join in online, as the format is mostly vir- tual. The festival will cover a range of topics from chil- dren’s literature and poetry to Hawaiian culture and sus- tainability.

John Irving
A special AuthorFest event is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Oct. 13. It will feature a conversation with New York Times bestselling authors John Irving and Ja- son Reynolds.

 Both are well-known for discuss the craft of writing their thought-provokingwithfellownovelistTyler
stories about race, class and identity. Irving won the Na- tional Book Award in 1980 for The World According to Garp. In 2000, he won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Cider House Rules. In 2013, he won the Lambda Liter- ary Award for In One Per- son. Reynolds, meanwhile, writes for young adults. His book, Long Way Down, re- ceived the 2018 Newbery Honor and the 2018 Edgar
McMahon (One Potato). Ackerman’s genre is his- torical fiction with plenty of inspiration from the islands. Her conversation will be moderated by Stuart Cole- man, the author of Eddie
