Scholarship Apps Due Feb. 15

Hawaii Medical Service Association currently is accepting scholarship applications from Hawaii high school seniors graduating in 2013 for the eighth annual Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program.

HMSA will award 21 high schoolers with a total of $80,500 in scholarship money, averaging about $3,000 per individual. The scholarships are awarded based on athletic and academic achievement, sports-manship and community involvement.

“We realize the value of being well-rounded, and this scholarship is unique because it celebrates that very characteristic,” stated Michael A. Gold, HMSA president and chief executive officer.

“Each year, this program gives us the opportunity to honor outstanding young men and women who are athletic, intelligent, compassionate, and will no doubt achieve great things in the future. It’s gratifying to know that we will be able to help them along the path to success.”

To be considered, applicants should have a minimum grade-point average of 2.75 in their senior year, and have played on a league-recognized team during at least one year of high school.

To apply, submit a completed application, an essay on your high school experience and future plans, two letters of recommendations from faculty members and GPA verification. Applications are available online at hmsa.com/kaimana and at sportshigh.com. Deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 15.

Recipients will be notified in April.
