or more than 70 years, Hawaiian Humane Society has served the ani- mals of O‘ahu and their people from
a site in Mōʻiliʻili, but the island’s popula- tion is moving west and the society is, too. Hawaiian Humane opened its second loca- tion at the corner of Fort Weaver and Old Fort Weaver Roads in ‘Ewa Beach.
Since the earliest humans gathering around a fire lured a wild wolf out of the darkness for warmth and a scrap of food, animals have had an unbreakable bond with people, serving as work animals and, today, especially pets.
“People for animals. Animals for peo- ple,” is Humane Society’s slogan.
Opening the new Kosasa Family Campus at Hoʻopili on a five-acre property donated by D.R. Horton Hawai‘i is the finale of more than a decade of research, planning, raising the necessary $30 million and building the new facility.
