ut of hundreds of students who par- ticipated in American Savings Bank’s Bank of Education KeikiCo Business
Plan Competition, a West O‘ahu team took home first place in the high school division.
“This year’s KeikiCo participants inspired us with their innovation, imagination, creativ- ity and commitment to bettering our commu- nity,” states Ann Teranishi, president and CEO at ASB. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support young leaders and entrepreneurs with financial education resources and mentorship opportunities to help build a stronger and more diversified economy.”
Each team put together and presented a busi- ness plan for a panel of judges. The winning entry was Nānākuli High School’s Scrappahz Union for its prototype of a mobile cardboard shredding system that processes cardboard or paper into three byproducts: mulching mate- rials, packaging materials and compostable planter pots. They won $25,000, plus $250 each to invest in future endeavors.
