Kato has taught English since 2002 and undoubtedly made a great impact on stu- dents’ ability to read and write over the past two decades. But she took on a role in 2018 that allowed her to promote literacy on an- other level.
“I am the literacy resource teacher for the Campbell-Kapolei Complex Area, which means that I support all of our 18 schools’ literacy development, but my role with CLSD (Comprehensive Literacy State De- velopment) is a major portion of my job,” states Kato.
Her role as one of the literacy coordina- tors for the Campbell-Kapolei CLSD grant is a dream come true. According to Kato, the state Department of Education received close to $50 million dollars under the grant
