your ‘ohana are well. At 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, I’m hosting my second in-person Community Meet- ing since 2020. It’s hybrid, so you can attend in-person at the Kapolei High School teachers’ lounge, or via Zoom. More information on how to attend is in the Highlights sec-
ceeding nicely. As of Septem- ber, it was 67% complete and on track to be finished in April 2023. Unfortunately, the state Office of Veterans’ Services is concerned that transportation complications may push back the opening. Of the rough- ly 118,000 military veterans in the state, approximately 85,000 live on O‘ahu.

                      Humane Society Site
On Sept. 2, I visited the site of the new West O‘ahu Hawaiian Humane Society in ‘Ewa, which is scheduled for completion in April 2023. The amazing facility will include open-air housing with ken- nels for animals big and small, meet-and-greet areas for pet adoptions, 24/7 secure drop- off locations for lost pets or strays, spay and neuter centers, classroom space, grooming stations and more. Mahalo to the Hawaiian Humane Society and D.R. Horton, which do- nated the 5.5-acre parcel to the nonprofit in 2017.
I was disappointed to learn the Daniel K. Akaka State Veterans Home will be de- layed nearly a year.
