or the first time in years, Mālama Learn- ing Center’s top fundraiser is making a comeback — and in a big way. From 5
to 8 p.m. Oct. 15, the community is invited to spend their Saturday evening at Kapolei High School to celebrate all things West O‘ahu — including its students, culinary leaders and en- tertainers — at Calabash & Cooks.
“We’re looking forward to really being able to gather again with the students that we love to work with, our supporters, teachers and the public,” shares executive director Pauline Sato.
Attendees can expect live performances by award-winning musician Bobby Moderow Jr., Hālau ‘O Nāpuala‘ikauika‘iu from Waipahu and classic rock/neo soul band JIVE NENE. There will also be a country store and silent auction. The latter, Sato says, will feature one- of-a-kind artwork, hotel stays and more.
“I think we’re kind of known for our silent auction. I don’t want to brag or anything, but some people say that our silent auction is killer, and this year’s one is not going to disappoint,” Sato says with a smile.
