Echelon West O‘ahu Hopes To Be A Force In The Community
 BY ELLISE KAKAZU
With a noble mission and big plans, Echelon West O‘ahu is recruiting a troop of young professionals who can help support The Salva- tion Army Kroc Center Ha- wai‘i and the organization’s outreach efforts.
“We are currently in our steering committee stage and have been tasked in de- veloping a full board that will serve the Westside of the island,” explains Ech- elon West O‘ahu president Camille Yano. “To date, we have seven board members, four interested members and a handful of enthusiastic volunteers. We hope to be a fully incorporated chapter by the end of the year.”

According to Yano, the group’s steering committee started meeting in Novem- ber 2021 and hopes to offi- cially be recognized as part of Echelon National Young Adult Auxiliary of The Sal- vation Army, like its prede- cessor and first state chapter Echelon Hawai‘i, in the near future.

“Our mission falls in line

Our members come from a wide range of professional experiences, including real estate, law enforcement, en- tertainment and other indus- tries, including banking and finance.”

Army’s slogan, to the fullest. “For Echelon West O‘ahu, this means serving others without expectation and in a selfless capacity,” explains Yano. “We understand that there is a greater purpose that we all serve, and we are here to do what we can in the short amount of time we have on this Earth. Hence,
Echelon West O‘ahu is the first young professional ser- vice board created to support The Salvation Army and its efforts across the west side of the island. But, at its core, the organization’s overall goal follows the same path as other chapters throughout
with the national Echelon mission, which seeks to mo- bilize the next generation for The Salvation Army by providing opportunities for young adults to engage with the organization through fel- lowship and networking, do- nations and fundraising, and service and volunteering,” states Yano.
Putting boots to the ground, Echelon West O‘ahu has a number of operations planned for the upcoming months. The organization’s team will aid Kroc Center Hawai‘i’s 10th anniversary gala by helping raise funds on Oct. 29. The day before Thanksgiving, members will help Kroc Center Hawai‘i
