onprofit 808 Cleanups envisions a world with clean and safe beaches, hiking trails, and natural spaces. They
dream of a society that cleans and maintains the land and sea so that reactive cleanups be- come obsolete, instead focusing on long-term environmental restoration and education.
In carrying out their mission, 808 Cleanups and its thousands of volunteers have removed over 765,000 pounds of rubbish through more than 1,700 group cleanup events and 8,500 Adopt-a-Site cleanups since the nonprofit’s incorporation in 2015.
“We pride ourselves in providing many weekly opportunities for the community to get involved in stewardship,” explains Mi- chael Loftin, executive director of 808 Clean- ups. “The need is to prevent and repair dam- age to our environment and communities in the way of litter, illegal dumping, graffiti tags, invasive plants, pallet bonfires, ocean plastics, fishing line snagged on reefs, and cultural sites either neglected or under threat of devel- opment.”
