808 Cleanups Makes It Easy To Restore Area Beaches

ups was in full force, realizing its mission through cleanup events at Pu‘u O Kaimukī Park, Mokulēʻia Army Beach and Kaupō Beach in Waimānalo. The latter event alone, which was done in col- laboration with Sea Life Park, brought out 150 participants who removed over 1,700 pounds of rubbish.
808 Cleanups holds a plethora of cleanup events, which are free and open to the general public. The events, most of which are family friendly, are held islandwide, including in West O‘ahu.
“For the Westside, we have our weekly Wednesday evening Nimitz Beach Kap- olei cleanups and restoration work that is ongoing,” says Loftin. “We also have volun- teers doing cleanups through our Adopt-a-Site program, in which our organization provides all the supplies for community members to clean a site of their choice.”
Nonprofit 808 Cleanups invites all ages to attend its community events.
“By getting the entire com- munity involved on a regular weekly basis we keep the progress growing consistent- ly, both in the tasks we ac- complish as well as in the ad- ditional outreach from having thousands of participants join us every year — who then go on to share their knowledge and experience with their family and friends,” con- cludes Loftin.
