 8 MIDWEEK DECEMBER 21, 2022
‘Tis The Season To Be Thankful, Joyous
I am thankful to re- ceive all the letters of goodness in our community, and that this column acts as a platform that allows people to ex- press their thankfulness and spread positivity. My par- ents raised me with the un- derstanding that the greatest gifts often cannot be found under the Christmas tree, re- minding me that time is our most precious commodity and spending it with those we love are moments to be cherished. So in this season of gratitude, I asked some of Hawai‘i’s locals, “What gift have you been most grateful
to receive and why?”
so much.”
Lara Sato Kapolei
“I’ m grateful for the gift of having my own family Christmas tradition.
“I grew up an only child and Christmas mornings were lonely. But now, every year, Christmas morning is spent with my wife, our two dogs, and my two step- sons and their father and his family for one big amazing blended family Christmas.”
Nolan Hong Pacific Palisades
“As someone who has had heart failure and has kidney failure, I believe the gift I am most grateful for is my family and friends. I have a great network that supports
me and helps me when I need things. Hopefully everyone has a great network of fam- ily and friends that they can count on. That’s something to be grateful for, not only this holiday season, but all year ’ round.”
Ryan Goshima ‘Aiea
“Life takes us all on a journey of ups and downs, so the gift that has been most gracious to me is the gift of appreciation. Every single day I am so appreciative of what I have been given.”
Adrian R’ Mante Los Angeles, California
“My dog. I bought my dog as a present to myself four years ago and he is the best gift I’ve ever received. He’s
been my best friend for four years and he’s truly changed my life. Every day with him is a gift and I will never take a moment for granted.”
Leah Lukela Wai‘anae
“God has blessed me with the healing gift of touch, and every time I help some- one by using this therapeutic gift, I am filled with ultimate gratitude to have been instru- mental in their well-being.”
Lawrence Pau Kapolei
“I am the most grateful for the gift of becoming a moth- er this year. My baby boy, Michael, will be 4 months on Christmas Day!”
Melissa Paulo Encino, California
“The most valuable gift that I am most grateful for is God’s unconditional love and all of the blessings that he has bestowed upon me and my family. Amen.”
Gail Paulo-Namerow Ko ‘Olina
“This year, on Sept. 29, my great niece Lucy Rae Wagner was born. I am grateful this delicately de- signed, perfectly formed gift from heaven arrived just in time to remind me that, even in the most challenging of times, the goodness of God is all around us.”
Jan Brenner Kāne‘ohe
“I am grateful for phone calls and text messages I receive on Christmas Day
wishing me and my family a Merry Christmas. It means
“We are very grateful that destiny brought us together 45 years ago and we are able to share our lives togeth- er. This is life’s greatest gift to us.”
