op-Up Labs for STEAM is exactly what it sounds like — a mobile lab that lets keiki explore science, tech-
nology, engineering, arts and math with a dose of sustainability.
Since October 2019, PULS has visited 41 sites, reaching more than 4,600 students and logging more than 22,000 student lab hours. In 2023, PULS reached more than 1,000 stu- dents all across O‘ahu— and is looking to expand to other schools, including those on the Leeward side.
It receives financial support from the City & County of Honolulu as well as Hawai‘i Community Foundation and Atherton Fam- ily Foundation.
“We have been fortunate to receive grants that have enabled us to go to different re- gions, such as Castle Foundation’s Pilina Fund to pop-up at schools in Waimānalo or Hawai‘i Community Foundation to pop-up at schools on the West side,” PULS founder Pamela Weaint says.
