Along with Beth Doughty, a long-time spe- cial education teacher, Tyson founded KAT Charities, a nonprofit animal rescue organi- zation, and the café was purposefully estab- lished to fulfill the nonprofit’s mission — to be a place where animals can find homes and people with disabilities can find employment.

r. Karen Tyson has had a love for the well-being of all creatures — both humans and furry friends — since
she was a small child. That love has led her to becoming one of O‘ahu’s top psychologists. as well as rescuing thousands of animals annually. Now, she is combining those two callings with the opening of Toe Beans and Dreams Adoption Café in Pearl Kai Shopping Center in ‘Aiea.
Since the nonprofit’s founding, Tyson and Doughty have spayed or neutered thousands of feral cats, provided medical care to un- wanted animals and found permanent homes for more than 2,000 cats pulled from the streets — while almost exclusively relying on their own personal funds and resources.
