hink of it as a sort of improv for direc- tors. Kumu Kahua Theatre is bringing back The Work, a friendly competi-
tion that pits two directors against each other in a showdown that is sure to be hilarious.
Here’s how The Work works: Emerging directors Kaipo Dudoit and Po‘ai Lincoln get to direct the same actors in the same scene. The catch is that while the actors will have a chance to memorize their lines ahead of time, the directors won’t get to speak with them or the technical crew until the night of the play — in fact they’ll only have 15 min- utes to confer before the curtains lift.
This year, the scene being performed is from Co-Habi-f’n-Station by Sean-Joseph Choo, whose script represents the first time The Work will present material from the the- ater’s Go Try PlayWrite contest in collabora- tion with Bamboo Ridge Press.
