ucked inside Ward Centre Mall in Kaka‘ako is a store full of hidden treasures, where purchases support
the state’s 51 public library branches. Established by Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i, Village Books & Music offers an expansive book collection — and much
more.
Sift through its neatly organized shelves
to find reasonably priced vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, artwork, postcards, POGs, stamps, maps, manga, comics and one-of-a- kind upcycled crafts.
“It is always fun to hear people get ex- cited when they see the store,” says Nainoa Mau, executive director of Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i. “There seems to be something in the store for everybody, some- thing that sparks their interest.
“For the collectors, a used bookstore is all about the out-of-print material. Many books and vinyl records, particularly in the Hawaiiana genres, are not available new, and our store is one of the best places to
