Area Lions Club Celebrates 75 Years

In 22 years, Aloha Harvest, which is located in Kaimukī, has recovered 30 million pounds of food to nourish the local community. Its volunteers, board members, staff and guests recently celebrated the launch of its 30x30 Challenge fundraiser during which the nonprofit aimed

his year, Koko Head Lions Club celebrates 75 years of serving the neighborhoods of Kaimukī to Ku-
li‘ou‘ou. With a current membership count of 39, the club is responsible for impres- sive community projects like building out bus shelters, cooking barbecue chicken and annual corn sales. Prior to COVID-19, the group held keiki and senior vision screenings, keiki hearing screenings, pub- lic school event support, school improve- ment events and kūpuna care home sup- port. Today, many of these initiatives are thankfully picking back up.
Despite pausing in-person events, the pandemic didn’t stop the club from acting. “While we were unable to participate in many of our normal projects and fundrais- ing due to the lockdown orders, club mem- bers, along with the Cyber Lions Club, we’re still able to support the community by 3D printing face shields, which were donated to hospitals, schools and kūpuna homes,” says Shasta Yamada, the club’s SEE PAGE 4
