Make A Difference, Beautify Oneula Beach

As part of Make A Difference Day, volunteers from Ewa Weed & Seed, Ewa Beach Lions Club, Poi Dogs & Popoki, Spartan Race and Haseko (located in Ewa Beach) will team up to keep the Ewa shoreline between Oneula Beach Park and White Plains beautiful.

“Haseko has been working to be a good neighbor for many years,” said Haseko project manager Lisa Enanoria. “We’ve partnered up on quite a few things that mainly focus on helping to take care of the aina.”

The group welcomes participants Oct. 25 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. to assist with picking up trash and other unwanted items along the coast.

“We’re also going to have people go out to different areas like North Road to help pick up trash along there, as well as help paint graffiti along bus stops,” Enanoria added.

The event also will feature a trap, spay, neuter, return aspect, thanks to Poi Dogs & Popoki.

“There’s a bunch of feral cats popping up all over the island, and Alicia Maluafiti (founder of Poi Dogs & Popoki) has this mobile neuter/spay program,” she explained. “Some volunteers will help to trap, neuter and release.”

Many families enjoy Oneula Beach Park and the surrounding area.

“It’s a little bit more than just the regular beach cleanup,” said Enanoria. “We want to teach the kids that you have to take care of it.”

Registered volunteers will be entered to win free entry to the 2015 Stadium Spartan Hawaii Sprint, as well as lunch and shave ice on cleanup day.
