Know A Hero? Tell Red Cross

Hawaii Red Cross is looking for heroes, and it needs everyone’s help to find them. The humanitarian organization is seeking nominations by Dec. 1 for its annual list of local heroes.

To qualify, nominees must have prevented human suffering, aided disaster victims, saved a life or assisted military service members and their family in Hawaii after July 1, 2013. Hawaii Red Cross then will recognize individuals in one of five categories — Lifesaver Hero, Military Hero, In the Line of Duty Hero, Youth Hero and Animal Hero — at a special breakfast.

Last year’s heroes include Animal Hero Bailey Miyamoto, a golden retriever from Kaneohe who comforts patients at Tripler through the hospital’s Human Animal Bond program, and Officers Wade Tamarra and Shayne Sesoko, who were honored as In the Line of Duty Heroes for saving the life of a Waipahu man whose house caught fire.
