Farmers Market Has Healthy Treats, Contest

The partnership among Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Kapolei High School and Malama Learning Center has resulted in a weekly farmers and green market at Kapolei High School each Thursday from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

This year, Makeke Kapolei celebrates its third year in the community and will incorporate a healthy trick-or-treat and costume contest into its Oct. 30 festivities.

Entertainment will be provided by Kapolei Middle School, American Renaissance Academy and Halau ‘O Kauluaua’e.

There also will be a heavy education component thanks to vendor demonstrations from Malama Learning Center and others, as well as projects by students.

The goal of Makeke Kapolei is to support local farmers and green businesses, while providing access to sustainable living to Kapolei and neighboring communities.

Makeke Kapolei also continues its mission to provide a vibrant gathering places for the community, local food producers and Hawaiian cultural practitioners.
