It’s become an island tradition to gather the family, head over to Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and wind through aisles and aisles of fun exhibits and live demonstrations.

This year, attendees can expect hundreds of local exhibitors offering a variety of food items, new gadgets and useful services.

The expo also will include a plant sale by Oahu Nursery Growers Association in the Galleria at the hall’s entrance.

Plus, we’ll have hourly prize drawings for Fuji and Panasonic items, including a Panasonic massage recliner chair, as well as daily giveaways of Las Vegas trips courtesy of Vacations Hawaii.

Formed in 1990, NELCO has worked in Hawaii’s event industry producing everything from boat shows to triathlons. As its president, I had the great opportunity recently to take charge of Pacific Expos, which has been showcasing local goods and services for decades. With a renewed spirit and a great team, we are taking Pacific Expos’ events to the next level by creating the best exposition experience for Hawaii’s consumers and exhibitors and by promoting small businesses.

As an example, for the first time the Fall Food and New Products Show will feature pop-up restaurants all weekend long.

Since our expo is known for food, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to showcase new, exciting chefs and their creative culinary dishes.

On Friday night between 5 and 9 p.m., Miso & Ale will serve its pork adobo waffle cones.

On Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Oko Guys will feature kim chee bacon okonomiyaki.

And Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., A Place To Eat will offer mint pesto penne, mac nut mahi mahi and a new item, bacon lomi lomi.

We also recognize the important role Hawaii Foodbank plays in our community.

That is why we’re partnering with it Friday night for a special promotion: When a guest brings a canned food item to donate to Hawaii Foodbank, they’ll get one free admission. We started this partnership at our summer expo this past June, where we successfully collected more than 3,000 items. We hope to top that at the fall expo.

We invite everyone to join us for the 49th annual Fall Food and New Products Show Oct. 18-20 at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Bring your appetite!
