Author Will Discuss Midway Battle June 6

Award-winning author Craig L. Symonds will speak at the Battle of Midway’s 73rd anniversary at Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor at 1:30 p.m. June 6 in the museum theater.

He will discuss decisions made during the battle, why they were made and relationships between key leaders. A book signing with Symonds, one of the nation’s leading naval historians, follows at 2:30 p.m.

The Battle of Midway (Pivotal Moments in American History) was published in 2011 and explains that the battle was won using strategy and the element of surprise — not based on luck, as is a popular belief.

“Craig Symonds’ knowledge of Midway is second to none,” stated museum executive director Kenneth DeHoff. “He is not only one of the nation’s leading naval historians, but is also an excellent storyteller, making this year’s presentation an event our visitors won’t want to miss.

“We are honored to have him as this year’s Battle of Midway Commemoration.”

Museum members and those who pay regular museum admission can attend free of charge.
