Author Gives OLGC Keiki Inside Look Into World Of Publishing

Students at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Pearl City enjoyed a special reading in September by author Tammy Yee, who has authored children’s books including Iki, the Littlest Opihi and Baby Honu Saves the Day.

Yee has completed more than 30 books.

First- and second-grade students got to hear Yee read from Baby Honu Saves the Day and watch her draw the many characters in the story.

Fourth- and fifth-grade keiki learned the steps leading up to the final artwork being chosen, as well as the process of getting a story published.

“I did not realize that it took such a long time and that it required so many steps,” said fourth-grade student Nadia F.

Second-grade student Anthony B. brought his own copy of Baby Honu’s

Incredible Journey with him to school, and Yee gladly autographed it.

“We feel truly blessed to be able to meet such an accomplished illustrator-author in person,” said Ginger Kamisugi, OLGC’s school reporter. “Now when we read books by her, the characters will have a special place in our hearts.”
