HPU Relying On Mililani Batsman Bolibol

Hawaii Pacific University first baseman Chad Bolibol and teammates are producing this spring, going 11-3 to start the season.

Now the Sea Warriors hope to continue that momentum during a long home stand. Beginning with Wednesday’s game at 4 p.m. with Dixie State at Hans L’Orange Park, HPU will play seven home games before going on the road March 25 at Cal Baptist. Bolibol, a former Mililani High standout, has been one of the team’s catalysts, batting .308 to go with 11 extra-base hits and 17 RBI. He recently took time to visit with MidWeek‘s Central Oahu Islander.

What is your earliest sports-related memory?

When I was 4 or 5 and I got my first bat. I remember my dad used to take me in the backyard to hit, and we’d sometimes go to the park and throw.

Who has had the biggest impact on your life? My parents (Larry and Sandra). They pushed me really hard to excel, especially in baseball. They’ve always been there to support me.

What area of your game did you work on the most during the off-season? I really had to work on my fielding, which is still kind of horrible, and I worked on my hitting. Those were the priorities.

What’s been the biggest adjustment in stepping up to the college level? Adjusting to the mental part of the game. The game is the same, but it’s just a different atmosphere. If you can stay mentally strong, it will help you bounce back.

What’s your favorite road destination? We have the most fun when we go to California. It’s a business trip, and we take care of our business, but we also get to do a lot of things we don’t get to do here.

What is in your iPod? I have a wide range. I have hip-hop, R&B, electronic dance music, a lot of rap, some Hawaiian, reggae …

What motion picture could you watch over and over? That’s a tough one; I watch a lot of movies. I’ll go with Benchwarmers.

When you’re back in Mililani, where do you like to eat? Anywhere in the Mililani Town Center is good, but I’ll say Mililani BBQ.

What website do you go to the most? YouTube and Facebook – to see what everyone is doing and to see what new videos have been posted.

Do you play video games? Yes. I play Xbox the most. My favorite games are all of the Call of Duty series. I play all of them.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hopefully, I’ll be working a job and I’ll own my own place by that time.

You are stuck on Kahoolawe and can have an endless supply of just one food. What would it be? Rice. I gotta have my rice.

Who would be your choice for a celebrity date on a Saturday night? (Actress) Mila Kunis. jackster.1969@yahoo.com
