Natural holiday decorations not only make use of the beauty around us, but also provide an avenue for unique additions this Christmas.

As part of its Without Walls program, Malama Learning Center will conduct a workshop Dec. 6 dedicated to creating decorations and gifts using natural materials, such as leaves, twigs and berries.

Among the items one can craft are wreaths, ornaments and table decorations that show off your creativity and design style.

Leading the class is Malia Lagaso, a local educator who enjoys hands-on projects with her family that focus on using nature’s gifts.

Materials will be provided at the workshop, along with numerous examples and ideas to jumpstart your creative streak.

In addition, some items will be available for purchase.

To register for the class, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon in Kapolei High School’s Portable 1, visit malamalearningcenter.org, or contact Sayo Constantino at sayo@malamalearningcenter.org or by phone at 483-0678.

Cost is $15 per person for the workshop sponsored by Hawaiian Electric Company.

Families of up to three pay $40, so why not make it a family affair? Children ages 5 years and older are welcome to participate.

The Without Walls program at Malama Learning Center focuses on developing skills and knowledge in the areas of sustainability and garnering appreciation for the connection between nature and the arts through hands-on experiences.
