8th Shorebreak Classic Gears Up For Surf Fun

The eighth annual Kailua Shorebreak Classic is on from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kalama Beach Club, where about 120 surfers ages 2 to 16 will compete for prizes in five age divisions, and every participating child gets a package of surf products from sponsors.

“As at past events, we are expecting the ”entire Kailua surfing community of over 1,000 to b hand to cheer on the keiki and celebrate the lives of Jason, Pete and Dave,” said Realtor Sean Yano, who helps coordinate Shorebreak.

The event is held in memory of Jason Bogle, Peter Miller (Kalaheo 1991) and David Aluli, all Kailua professional surfers and best friends, who lost their lives within a year of each other. All proceeds from the surf meet will go to Na Kama Kai (children of the sea), a nonprofit founded by 2010 ASP longboard champion Duane Desoto, whose mission is to educate and empower youths in ocean safety and conservation.

For more information, call Yano at 386-4487 or go to the event’s Facebook page.
