Thanks to Underwriters Association of Hawaii, University of Hawaii at West Oahu has begun the new school year with an additional $11,375 to apply toward its unique Risk Management and Insurance certificate program.

The money was raised during underwriters’ annual golf tournament at Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach over the summer.

The Risk Management and Insurance certificate program trains students in risk management as well as personal and commercial insurance. The money will fund scholarships for students and support other program needs.

“We are truly grateful for the continued support from the Underwriters Association of Hawaii that allows UH West Oahu to offer scholarships to our Risk Management and

Insurance students,” stated UH West Oahu chancellor Rockne Freitas. “As the only university in the state to offer a Risk Management and Insurance certificate program, together with our insurance industry partners, UH West

Oahu prepares students to pursue insurance careers that are in high demand locally and nationally.”

“We are thrilled to be able to continue to support UHWO’s Insurance Program,” stated UAH president Chris Laniauskas. “UAH is very thankful for the hundreds of volunteers and scores of sponsors who contributed to making this year’s event a success.”

The UHWO certification program was created in collaboration with professionals in the risk management and insurance industry.
