U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Christopher Agas has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. The Waipahu native completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and more. Agas is a 2006 Waipahu High graduate and earned an associate’s degree from Leeward CC in 2009.

Pearl City’s Ching Dressel participated as the Navy’s representative in the 2014 Warrior Games. An avid runner, Dressel was selected in June to compete in the paralympic-like competition among wounded warriors from all branches of the military. The event took place Sept. 28-Oct. 4 in Colorado Springs. A returning Warrior Games athlete, the chief Navy counselor competed in cycling and also took home a bronze medal in track.

Danielle Finn of Kapolei has been named vice president of commercial underwriting at DTRIC Insurance Group.

In her new role, Finn oversees all commercial risk for DTRIC Insurance, managing not only commercial accounts and a staff of underwriters and technicians, but also the loss-control department. She originally joined DTRIC in 2010 and served most recently as commercial lines underwriting manager.

McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii has promoted Pearl City’s Maria Fernando to regional training consultant for the Hawaii region. Fernando has been with McDonald’s for 28 years and began as a crewmember working in various McDonald’s restaurants across the state; most recently as general manager of McDonald’s of Wahiawa. In her current position, she will conduct training classes face to face and virtually. The training is designed to motivate McDonald’s employees, build their competencies and improve their individual performance.

Maria Sabio of Waipahu has been promoted to operations manager for RevoluSun’s Oahu division. In her new role, Sabio will manage the efficient flow of the operations department to maximize output and improve productivity. She will identify inefficiencies, implement standards of performance, analyze reports on sales and operational performance, and work with top management to develop strategic plans to optimize productivity.

Shawncy Cullen of Ewa Makai Middle School placed first in Aloha Harvest’s annual Compassion in Arts competition last month. Her entry, titled “Lend A Hand,” won over the judges in the video category.

Kapolei Middle School’s Rose Garcia took first for her drawing, “It Starts with You,” as part of Aloha Harvest’s Compassion in Arts competition in the Middle School Drawing category.

Brooke Eiden of Kapolei Middle School was awarded honorable mention in Aloha Harvest’s Compassion in Arts competition for her Middle School Drawing category entry, “Donating Shows Compassion.”

Ronald Kuroda, M.D., has been named The Queen’s Medical Center -West Oahu’s medical director. His responsibilities include establishing the standards of medical and professional care for the hospital, and ensuring all clinical, educational and research activities meet regulatory, ethical and scientific standards, and are consistent with the mission of Queen’s.

Alison Matsuo, RN, BS, OCN has been promoted to director of quality and regulatory affairs at The Queen’s Medical Center-West Oahu. Matsuo’s responsibilities include overseeing quality reporting, identifying opportunities for improvement and collaborating with department managers to implement plans to improve patient care. She will ensure regulatory compliance and oversee risk-management activity. She has been with the medical center for the past 18 years.

Aiea resident Reimi Donlin has been hired as a human resources consultant for McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii. In her new position, Donlin is responsible for auditing and consulting McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii’s operational leadership on human resources practices on employee benefits and compensation. Previously, Donlin she worked first as a compensation specialist and then, after promotion, as compensation analyst for First Hawaiian Bank.
