Part of Leilehua’s 2013 national champion Cyber-Patriot team, Kawika Lavarias has been inside a lot of forts since graduating last May. He’s completed Army Reserve basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., and also Army Intelligence training at Fort Gordon, Ga. The son of David and Patrina is now assigned to Fort Shafter in the multi-channel communications signal corps … Sunset Beach Elementary teacher Sheri Burke is totally certified, having successfully completed a yearlong, rigorous national course in effective classroom teaching … Waialua’s Mark Talaeai (Leilehua 1989) and Pastor Steve Rivera of Whitmore have launched a surf ministry, Spit Hawaii (surf, pray, intercede, trust). They host a “Bread on the Beach” Bible study/potluck as part of it at 6 p.m.
