Maunawili Elementary enrichment student Maya Arakaki met her teacher’s Legacy Project challenge by raising $2,500 in one month by writing a grant and numerous letters to school ohana, neighbors and a church. The goal? An automated external defibrillator (AED) for the school. Teacher Dee Takeno says the AED was ordered just before Maya’s sixth-grade graduation in May. “I’ve been teaching for over 20 years,” Dee says, “and Maya is just one of those students I will always remember!” …
