Mililani’s Ray Cruz has put a new gig on his music menu. Last week the popular deejay and emcee premiered Latin Beat on HPR-2, where he works as assistant operations manager. Wednesdays from 8 to 10 p.m., he’s playing the latest sounds of Afro-Cuban Latin jazz as well as Latin big band classics. “I picture my listeners coming home from a hard day of work, turning on the radio to Latin Beat, and getting recharged,” says Ray, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 at the annual Los Angeles Salsa Congress …

Dana Dinsmore, an engineer from Haleiwa, was in the Season 3 cast of reality TV show Alt for Norge (The Great Norway Adventure) a while back. The camera follows a dozen Norwegian Americans who fly to Norway and immerse themselves in the culture as they race through obstacles toward a $50,000 prize. He didn’t win it, but a fellow contestant called the surfer dude “laid back, mischievous, wonderfully surprising. Dana tends toward handstands in strange places” …
