Surf & Turf Race Set For April 14 On Base

There may or may not be a bugle blowing, but if you’re willing to rise and shine before dawn, the ninth annual Surf & Turf 5K begins at 6:30 a.m. April 14 at Kaneohe Marine base.

“We do a selection of races each year to promote wellness for military members. This is a great way for the public to come out and enjoy the sights of the base and get a run in, too,” said Kimm Marie Teruya of the Marine Corps Community Services Semper Fit and Single Marine and Sailor Program, which are sponsors of the event.

The run is open to the public and all military branches. Deadline to register online is 4:30 p.m. April 11. After today (April 4) the fee goes up from $25 to $30. Participants may sign up at mccshawaii.com/cgfit.shtml. Individuals also may register until race day at the base fitness center. Packet pickup will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 at the center.

Awards will be given to the top three overall finishers and the top finisher in each group for both men and women.

The race gives runners an opportunity to run from the Officers Club, through Klipper Golf Course and along North Beach, which is normally restricted from public access.
