Star Poets Awards On Sunday

And the winners are …! Student winners of the 12th annual Star Poets contest, cosponsored by Windward Community College, will be announced in a ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at Tenney Theatre.

Keiki in grades 3 to 12 from across the state submitted up to three poems, with the top five winners in each grade scheduled to receive prizes, including cash prizes of $50 each. They also will read their poems at the ceremony, and see them published in the Star Poets Journal as well as online at windward.hawaii.edu/poets.

The awards ceremony is supported by the Windward Arts Council and the Hawaii Council for the Humanities. Admission is free and open to the public.

WCC’s Star Poets project got some attention recently from Honolulu Theatre for Youth. Its production, Poetry Fever, which played this school year, featured winning poems from the past 10 years of entries. Tenney Theatre also is the home stage for HTY.
